Make This Summer Count: Preparing Your Child for a Successful School Year

As summer arrives, many families look forward to vacations, relaxation, and a break from the school routine. While downtime is important, summer can also be one of the most valuable opportunities to help your child build the skills they need for a successful return to school.

For children with autism, ADHD, developmental delays, or learning differences, long breaks from structured learning can sometimes lead to regression in important skills. That’s why summer is the perfect time to focus on growth, independence, and school readiness in a supportive and engaging environment.

Why Summer Matters

The weeks leading up to a new school year provide an ideal window to strengthen foundational skills that help children thrive in the classroom. These skills go far beyond academics and include:

  • Following instructions and routines
  • Participating in group activities
  • Waiting, sharing, and taking turns
  • Communicating wants and needs effectively
  • Managing transitions between activities
  • Developing attention and focus
  • Building confidence and independence

By targeting these skills during the summer months, children can enter the new school year feeling more prepared, capable, and confident.

Introducing Reach’s Summer Intensive ABA Program

Our Summer Intensive ABA Program is designed to help children make meaningful progress while school is out. Through individualized, evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, our team works closely with each child to develop the communication, social, behavioral, and learning skills that support long-term success.

Every program is tailored to the child’s unique strengths and goals, ensuring that each therapy session is purposeful, engaging, and focused on measurable outcomes.

Families often find that intensive summer intervention provides an excellent opportunity to accelerate progress and build momentum before the school year begins.

Building School Readiness for Long-Term Success

School readiness is about much more than knowing letters and numbers. Successful students are able to navigate classroom expectations, interact positively with peers, follow routines, and adapt to new learning environments.

At Reach, our School Readiness Program provides children with opportunities to develop these essential skills in a structured, school-like setting. Children learn in small groups with individualized support, helping them build confidence while practicing the routines and expectations they will encounter in the classroom. The program is designed for children aged 18 months to 7 years and is supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and experienced therapists. (Reach Therapy)

Our focus includes:

  • Social and communication skills
  • Classroom participation
  • Emotional regulation
  • Independence and self-help skills
  • Pre-academic learning foundations
  • Peer interaction and cooperative play
